Commissioner Cioloş visits Romania

Meeting the Romanian minister Mihail Dumitru

"The Common Agricultural Policy supports the EU2020 strategy. Green, inclusive and intelligent growth is better achieved if we explore the full potential of European agriculture for the sustainable management of natural resources and for maintaining jobs in rural areas", Commissioner Dacian Cioloş stated in Bucharest on 23 April 2010, opening the seminar "Looking to the future: Romania and Europe 2020 strategy", organized by the EU Representation to Romania.

Meeting the Romanian minister of Agriculture & Rural Development, Mr. Mihail Dumitru, Commissioner Cioloș presented the calendar of the recently launched public debate on the future of the CAP, stressing the need to promote this process outside the agricultural environment, to regional and local NGOs interested in environment protection, biodiversity loss, consummer protection. "The debate should reach out beyond farmers and agriculture to wider society, as agriculture is not only for farmers but for all society", declared commissioner Dacian Cioloș.

During his visit to Romania, Mr. Cioloș also had bilateral meetings with President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Emil Boc.
