Commissioner Dacian Cioloş visits Sweden

The framework for the future European farm policy must remain "common" because farmers compete in the EU Single Market, but there must remain flexibility to allow for the different specificities of agriculture in the different Member States and regions of the EU, according to EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Cioloș. Speaking to the media during his visit to Sweden (29/30 July 2010), he underlined that one of the priorities for the future is to maintain an agricultural presence and the diversity of agriculture in all regions.

Closing the Conference on the Public Debate on the CAP post-2013, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dacian Ciolos stated this afternoon (20 July):
"Strengthened by your points of view, your ideas and the analytical ability of my services, I will come forward in November with a Communication from the European Commission on the future of the CAP. During this 2-day conference, a common vision has emerged of the major challenges that face us in the years ahead. We must now design our responses for these 7 major challenges: food production; globalisation; the environment; economic issues; a territorial approach; diversity; and simplification. We must seek economic performance, while respecting the balance of nature.

The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Cioloş has launched two days of reflection and discussion on the future of the CAP at a conference summarising the recent public debate on the post-2013 CAP launched last April. Opening the conference in Brussels, this morning, the Commissioner Cioloş said:
"The Europeans took the chance that we offered to express themselves. And
in a very active way. Almost 6000 responses were received. I wanted us to
have an open and transparent debate, a moment of truth between the CAP and our
citizens before reviewing the organization of the CAP, to be sure the
foundation is sufficiently solid to support this construction.
Conference on CAP post-2013 to build on success of public debate

Roughly 600 delegates from all over the EU come to Brussels next Monday and Tuesday (19-20 July 2010) to discuss the future of the Common Agriculture policy after 2013. This Conference will seek to debate and draw some form of conclusions from the public debate on the post-2013 launched by the Commission in April, based on the four very fundamental questions of: "Why do we need a CAP? What do citizens expect from agriculture? Why reform the CAP? What tools do we need for the CAP of tomorrow?"
Commissioner Cioloş in Finland: "The Common Agricultural Policy will support agriculture all over Europe"

During his official visit to Finland on 14-15 of July 2010, Commissioner Dacian Cioloş had meetings with the representatives of the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners MTK and visited milk and beef production farms in Kontiolahti and Eno in the North Karelia region.

Commissioner Dacian Cioloș visited Berlin on July 1 & 2 and attended the Deutscher Bauerntag (German Farmers Congress). In his keynote speech to the farmers, the Commissioner underlined the importance of the public goods that farmers already provide which cannot be rewarded by the market.
Commissioner Cioloş in Austria: "Focus on quality and environmental protection"

Commissioner Dacian Cioloș made his first visit as Commissioner to Austria on June 30 and July 1 – the day that the new EU Organic logo entered into force. After an informal evening meal with Austria's Farm Minister Nikolaus Berlakovich on the Wednesday evening, there was a more formal bilateral meeting on the Thursday morning where the future of the CAP after 2013 was the main point for discussion.
