"One in two consumers regret that local products are hard to find and difficult to distinguish from other products (Eurobarometer). Yet, there is a structural failure to meet these concerns and certain political and business circles harbour deep-rooted prejudices against this type of marketing", stated European Commissioner Dacian Cioloş, opening a conference in Brussels on the 20th of April, on local agriculture and short supply chain.

Launching of the High Level Group on wine

The High Level Group on wine met for the first time today, bringing together senior officials from Member States, representatives of the sector, observers of the European Parliament and Croatia.
Initiated by European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Cioloş, the Group will hold four meetings to analyse all aspects of wine planting rights, in response to calls from parts of the wine sector in some Member States not to abolish the wine planting rights system.

In his address to the conference "Sowing the Seeds to harvest in Future : Supporting Young People into Farming", the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dacian Cioloş insisted on the need to strengthen the support measures for young farmers in the Common Agricultural Policy after 2013.
