Meeting between the COMAGRI President and Coordinators and Commissioner Dacian Cioloş

Commissioner Dacian Cioloş

Commissioner Dacian Cioloş, met today with the President of the COMAGRI, Czesław Siekierski and the coordinators of the political groups Albert Dess and Michel Dantin (EPP), Paolo De Castro (S&D), James Nicholson (ECR), Jens Rohde (ALDE),  Martin Haeusling (Greens-EFA), Maria Lidia Senra Rogriguez (EUL-NGL) and John Stuart Agnew (EFDD).

This meeting was a good opportunity to start working on the issues that are under discussion until the end of the current European Commission's term in October this year and to make an update on several sectorial issues and on the on-going trade negotiations.

"I would like to sincerely thank Commissioner Cioloș for his initiative to hold today's meeting with COMAGRI Coordinators. We are very pleased to know that the Commissioner visits us in order to discuss priorities for activities in the coming months, since there is a series of topics on which we would like to exchange views before the upcoming meeting", said Czesław Siekierski.

"I thank the President and the Coordinators for this opportunity to start working together. Before the end of the mandate of the current Commission, we can make progress on two important topics – the organic package and the school schemes. I am committed to continue working closely and swiftly on the remaining delegated acts of the reform of Common Agricultural Policy adopted last year", stated Dacian Cioloş.

During the meeting, Commissioner Cioloş presented an overview of the programme foreseen until the end of mandate of the current Commission, especially regarding the legislative proposals for the organic sector, the school scheme and the delegated acts in relation with the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy. The Coordinators raised concerns on several issues concerning the milk sector, the implementation of the CAP reform and the current situation of summer fruits and rice sectors.

For the milk sector, the Commissioner proposed to provide the European Parliament with a detailed document presenting the instruments available and highlighted the need to continue the discussion on this sensitive issue taking into account the diversity of situations and expectations across Europe. Concerning the subject of summer fruits and rice, Dacian Cioloş underlined that the European Commission is following very closely the evolution of these sectors and stands ready to act if necessary once the Member States concerned will send detailed analysis on the situation. The Commissioner also updated the COMAGRI president and Coordinators on the agricultural aspects of the on-going trade negotiations, especially on the TTIP.
