The European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dacian Cioloş, has had a meeting today with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Iurie Leancă, at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels. 

The discussions of the two high officials focused primarily on the negotiations on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD). 

Commissioner Cioloş welcomed the conclusion of negotiations DCFTA and expressed its hope that the Republic of Moldova will be among the countries that will initial the agreement at the EU -Eastern Partnership Summit, to be held in Vilnius, in November. 

"I am happy that, by concluding this agreement, the Republic of Moldova makes another important step on its European path and I hope that Moldovan farmers will reap the benefits of an improved access to the European market," stated the European Commissioner Dacian Cioloş. 

During the meeting, Commissioner Cioloş reiterated the importance of ENPARD for the development and modernization of agriculture and rural areas in the Republic of Moldova, in the context of the new opportunities offered by the DCFTA agreement. The European high official also appreciated the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities to prepare for the implementation of the ENPARD, including by adopting a long-term strategy for agriculture and rural development.
