DS international cooperation new > Eurostat strategy EN REVAMP

Eurostat’s international statistical cooperation strategy is rooted in the  global strategy of the EU's foreign and security policy, the European consensus on development as well as  Eurostat’s strategic objectives

Key pillars

In line with the consensus, Eurostat is committed to:

  • boosting the statistical capacity of developing countries, including through strengthened capacity for the production and analysis of data, to inform policy and decision-making
  • investing in stronger statistical institutions at sub-national, national and regional level, and the use of new technologies and data sources
  •  supporting the EU’s contribution to the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda
  • fostering a more coordinated EU and EU countries approach to development
  • engaging in tailored partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders and partner countries.

Key actions

Eurostat works with partners at global, regional, and national level to implement its international statistical cooperation strategy. Together with the national statistical institutes of the European Statistical System, Eurostat aspires to:

  • shape and promote statistical standards that are compatible with EU values and principles of the European Statistics Code of Practice
  • continuously drive innovation and development of new metrics and methodologies
  • enhance the use of new data sources and digital technologies in the production and dissemination of official statistics
  • advocate the implementation of good governance and professional independence of official statistics across the globe.

With its efforts, Eurostat aims to enhance standard-setting in the global statistical system to increase the availability of comparable statistics across the globe.

Robust official statistics are crucial for the design and implementation of policies, such as the global UN Agenda 2030 and EU external action and development policies.

Available assistance

Eurostat's statistical technical assistance to national and regional statistical systems outside of the EU focuses on ensuring sustainable production and dissemination of official statistics.

Statistical technical assistance in statistics aims at:

  • developing capacity to implement the UN 2030 Agenda at regional and national levels
  • fostering and enabling policy environments, particularly for the most marginalised communities
  • supporting the sharing of knowledge and lessons learned.
