SDG 6 calls for ensuring universal access to safe and affordable drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as ending open defecation. It also aims to improve water quality and water-use efficiency and encourages sustainable abstractions and supply of freshwater.
In the EU context, monitoring SDG 6 focuses on sanitation, water quality, and water scarcity.
