JREC - Johannesburg Renewable Energy Coalition

Investments & Markets

JREC Members are equally committed to identifying and removing financing gaps and obstacles for the expansion of global renewable energy markets. The needs of developing country members are given particular prominence.

BankIn addition to the efforts undertaken by individual Members, JREC conferences, meetings and side events offer a high-level platform for public-private partnerships, business and finance associations to raise awareness amongst senior officials and ministers about their services, funding opportunities and needs. JREC thus serves as platform to enhance coordinated international and/or regional activities where appropriate and to ensure that political ambitions are adequately reflected in the budget of governments and public institutions.

Financial MarketsJREC membership does not entail funding obligations or rights but particular attention is paid to developing innovative financing mechanisms. The JREC Patient Capital Initiative [PDF file - 129Kb] for example, is a project that aims to develop an innovative public-private investment mechanism that creates and delivers risk capital to renewable energy project developers and entrepreneurs at affordable conditions. JREC focuses mainly on political initiatives that guide investments and relies on associated public and/or private initiatives and partnerships to ensure concrete actions are undertaken that benefit the market actors whilst ensuring maximum synergies and to serve the broad range of respective objectives.
