The European pillar of social rights (EPSR) was jointly signed by the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission in November 2017. It aims to take account of changing realities in the labour market, to promote the renewal of economic convergence across the EU, and to deliver new and more effective rights for citizens.
The pillar is built around three main headings: equal opportunities and access to the labour market, fair working conditions, social protection and inclusion.
To monitor the progress being made to strengthen the social dimension of Europe, the European Commission set up a scoreboard of ESPR indicators. As policymakers are increasingly interested in analysing information at a regional level, many of the social scoreboard indicators are available by NUTS region and by degree of urbanisation.
The map below shows one of the EPSR headline indicators - ‘Employment rates’ at NUTS2 level. Regions that have an employment rate of at least 75 % (EU policy target) are marked in blue and regions below this threshold are depicted in orange.
