Jacques de Larosière

Jacques de Larosière has been Advisor to the President at BNP Paribas since 1998. He also chairs the High-Level Expert Group on EU Financial Supervision, which presented the so-called ‘de Larosière Report’ to the European Commission on 25 February 2009.

Mr. de Larosière is President of the European Savings Institute (OEE) since 1999, Co-chairman of Eurofi (the European think tank on the integration of EU financial markets) since 2000, and Co-chairman of the Committee on Crisis Management and Crisis Resolution in Emerging Markets of the Institute of International Finance since 2003. He also holds the position of Chairman of the Strategic Committee of the French Treasury (Agence France Trésor) since 2004.

Mr. de Larosière was elected Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 1978, a position which he held until 1987, when he was appointed Governor of the Bank of France. From 1993 to 1998, he was President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

After graduating from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques of Paris University, Mr. de Larosière pursued studies at the Ecole Nationale d'Administration and started his career at the French Treasury. From 1974 to 1978 he was Under Secretary for Monetary Affairs.

Mr. de Larosière is also Chairman of the Advisory Board of MidEuropa Fund, and a member of the Group of Trustees for the Principles for Emerging Markets, of the International Advisory Board of American International Group. He is a member of the Advisory Board of China Development Bank, and of the Board of Directors of France Telecom. He is a director of the Stichting NYSE Euronext (the Dutch foundation) and Trustee of NYSE Group Trust I (the US Trust).

Mr. de Larosière is a member of the French Academy of Moral and Political Sciences and of the Institute of France. He is Commandeur of the Légion d’Honneur and Knight of the British Empire.
