Periscope debuts Game of Thrones 5 opening episode

GoT is the most pirated TV series on the internet and series 5 really proved that it still has unbeatable drawing power for audiences, whether legal or illegal. Not only were reviewer DVDs of the first few episodes ripped and torrented, surely an own-goal for HBO, but some US subscribers used Periscope, Twitter's new live-streaming service, to transmit video of their TV screens to Australians without Foxtel subscriptions. This is against the terms and conditions of use for Periscope of course, but shows that audiences are in a playful mood as regards copyright. Mashable has the full story.

Meanwhile rumours reach me of rightsholders in Europe starting to accept the idea of portability between EU Member States: people being able to view paid-for content when outside their country of residence where they originally purchased the right to view. There's a chasm here been the technological possibilities and the willingness of rightsholders to change.
