Legislation
EU regulation 1338/2008 on Community statistics on public health and health and safety at work was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council in December 2008. The regulation is designed to ensure that health statistics provide adequate information for all EU members to monitor actions in the field of public health and health and safety at work.
The regulation lists 5 domains for which implementing regulations specify in detail the list of variables and methodological aspects which were or will be developed:
- Health status and health determinants: EU regulation 2018/255 on statistics based on the European health interview survey
- Health care (health care expenditure and financing):
- EU regulation 2015/359 on statistics on healthcare expenditure and financing, covering data until reference year 2020
- EU regulation 2021/1901 on statistics on health care expenditure and financing, covering data from reference year 2021
- EU regulation 2022/2294 on statistics on healthcare facilities, healthcare human resources, and healthcare utilisation
- EU regulation 2018/255 on statistics based on the European health interview survey
- Causes of death: EU regulation 328/2011 on statistics on causes of death
- Accidents at work: EU regulation 349/2011 on statistics on accidents at work
- Occupational diseases: experimental statistics, see Annex V of EU regulation 1338/2008
In addition, data on selected health issues are based on the legislation of the 2 social surveys used, namely:
- Legislation on EU statistics on income and living conditions
- Legislation on the labour force survey ad-hoc modules on accidents at work and other work-related health problems in 1999, 2007, 2013 and 2020.
