Glossary:Dairy cow

A dairy cow is a female bovine animal which has already calved (including those less than 2 years old) and which, by reason of its breed or particular qualities, is kept exclusively or principally to produce milk for human consumption or for processing into dairy products.

Includes

  • Buffalo dairy cows
  • Cull dairy cows which were taken out of milk production to be slaughtered, whether or not they were fattened between their last lactation and their slaughter
