Register now for the seminar “Future-fit housing policy: Social and financial dimensions” on 19 April at 3pm!

6th seminar of the “Social policy unpacked” series: Future-fit housing policy: Social and financial dimensions, with Prof. Sebastian Kohl

In the sixth session of the Speaker Series, Prof. Sebastian Kohl (Free University Berlin) will provide an insight into the rise and fall of social housing, housing financialisation and the spatial polarisation of housing markets in Europe.

Join us on 19 April and let’s discuss:

  • What is the current state of social housing and housing welfare across Europe?
  • What policy recommendations can we take away from the growing impact of institutional landlords and the financialisation of housing?
  • Why have housing prices within countries risen in some places more than others?
  • What is the role of social and affordable housing to ensure a fair green transition?

Sebastian Kohl is Professor of Sociology at Berlin's Free University (JFK Institute). Previous experience includes his work as senior researcher at Cologne's Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, the Institute for Housing and Urban Research in Uppsala, as well as his Kennedy Fellowship at the Center for European Studies at Harvard. His research focuses on the political economy of housing in historical-comparative perspectives. Explore some of his research on housing financialisation here.
