Detailed definition |
Ratio of total income received by the 20% of the country's population with the highest income (top quintile) to that received by the 20% of the country's population with the lowest income (lowest quintile). Income must be understood as equivalised disposable income. The indicator is to be calculated to two decimal places. |

This indicator is calculated on the basis of the microdata collected in the EU-SILC survey. Household income is summed from all sources (employment, social transfers), the OECD equivalisation scale is applied and income is attributed to each household member to create a distribution. Shares are calculated on the basis of this distribution. |
