This year’s EQAVET Peer Learning Activity (PLA) took place online in 24-25 April and addressed the topic of quality assuring education for democratic citizenship education in VET. Around 71 participants attended the EQAVET PLA, representing more than 26 EU and Non-EU countries.

The PLA brought together a diverse set of relevant stakeholders (decision makers, national experts, VET providers, student representatives, etc.) and provided an opportunity for participants to explore national and EU initiatives in promoting democratic citizenship education in VET. The PLA also focused on the role of quality assurance (including EQAVET) and stakeholders’ involvement, including learners, teachers, and in-company trainers, in fostering democratic citizenship competences.

The PLA featured several presentations including perspectives from the Netherlands, Slovakia, Portugal, Georgia as well as insights presented by Council of Europe, the European Commission, the Euro4VET project, OBESSU and a thematic expert.

Participants were able to discuss common challenges in democratic citizenship education in VET across Europe and share experiences how QA can help to address the implementation gap in VET (i.e., the difference between what is set as learning objectives for democratic citizenship education and how it is implemented on the ground).
