Apprentices take part in a 2- to 3-year course, alternating between 6 weeks of work and 2 weeks of full-time training, which includes living and working alongside qualified and experienced trainers (the "Compagnons" in question). Les Compagnons also provide high-level training to qualified tradespeople during the Tour de France. This programme is based on a model wherein trainees sharpen their skills while traveling, working in different companies throughout the year while also spending several weeks training in a trade and passing certifications (such as the EQF level 4-5).
