Description of the Organisation:
The University of Deusto was inaugurated in 1886, as a result of the increasing cultural interest within the Basque Country in having a local university, as well as of the interest of the Jesuits in offering higher studies opportunities in some part of the Spanish State. Bilbao, a seaport and commercial city that was undergoing considerable industrial growth during that era, was then chosen as the ideal location. The university has already developed many international programmes with more than 200 universities. Every year, on average, approximately 1,300 students and 50 professors take part in mobility programmes. The University adopted the European credit system in 1994, and works to promote it and improve its quality. Deusto was among the first European universities to extend the European credits to all its faculties and programmes. One of the main goals of the University within its new Strategic Plan is to boost the international traineeships both incoming and outgoing.
