This report looks into the situation of persons who have accumulated pensions rights in several EU countries or who retire in another EU country. When a person receives a lump sum payment or a refund of paid contributions, or waives his or her pension, there may be consequences for both the migrant person and for the social security institutions of the Member States in which he/she was insured or in which he/she resides. The report presents the practical problems encountered in these situation and provides potential solutions to overcome them.
