On 23 January 2017, Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President of the EC in charge of the Euro, Social Dialogue, Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, Marianne Thyssen, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, and Evarist Bartolo, Maltese Minister for Education and Employment and President in office of the Council, participated at the at the conference entitled "The European Pillar of Social Rights: going forward together". In March 2016 the European Commission launched a public consultation to make an assessment of the present EU social "acquis", to reflect on new trends in work patterns and societies and to gather views and feedback on the principles identified in a preliminary outline of the European Pillar of Social Rights. The consultation ran until 31 December 2016 and its results will contribute to the final outline of the Pillar and help to identify the scope of future action where necessary.
