ISA² - Interoperability solutions for public administrations, businesses and citizens

SEMIC conference 2016 attracts over 200 participants

On 12 May 2016, the 6th edition of the annual SEMIC conference welcomed over 200 participants from more than 30 countries, including representatives from non-European countries such as the USA, Japan and Uruguay.

The conference, hosted this time in Rome, was organised by the Interoperability Solutions for Public Administrations, Businesses and Citizens Programme (ISA2) of the European Commission, with the support of the Agency for Digital Italy (Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale - AgID).

This year, the conference centred around the benefits and challenges of using data standards for improving information exchange, access and reuse. Speakers from various sectors (i.e. public, private and academia, European Institutions and non-profit organisations) illustrated first-hand experiences and best practices on data standards

During two panel discussions, participants presented practical implementations of data standards at national and international levels, and discussed how the DCAT Application Profile supports the creation of a European Open Data Ecosystem by fostering integration between datasets and data portals.

The conference initiated animated discussions on Twitter (#SEMIC2016) between various stakeholders, and soon became a trending topic in Italy.

All conference-related material is available on the SEMIC 2016 conference website.
