ISA² - Interoperability solutions for public administrations, businesses and citizens

SEMIC 2016 conference — Speakers published and a new venue for the event!

More than 200 professionals are expected to take part in this year’s conference, which is the most visible and established event for public sector semantic and information interoperability in Europe.

The interest in participating at SEMIC 2016 is exceeding our expectations! To accommodate even more participants, we will be moving to a larger venue.

The event will still take place on 12 May 2016 in Rome, but will now be held at Sheraton Parco de Medici Rome Hotel (address: Viale Salvatore Rebecchini 39 – 00148 Roma, Italy). More information on the exact location of the meeting room, along with any other practical information, will be sent a few days before the event.

In addition, the final agenda of the SEMIC 2016 conference has been published!

This year's SEMIC conference will explore the benefits and the challenges of reusing data standards for improving information exchange, access and reuse.

The conference, which is organised by the European Commission, will be opened by Stefano Quintarelli, Deputy of the Italian Parliament and chairperson of the Steering Committee of Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale (AgID), as well as Antonio Samaritani, General Director of AgID, followed by an introduction from Gertrud Ingestad, Director General of DG for Informatics of the European Commission.

What can public administration learn from the successful implementation of data standards in other industries, such as healthcare and financial services? Our keynote speakers: Fergal Mc Groarty of St. James Hospital in Ireland, Clare Rowley of GLEIF and Paul Janssens of SWIFT will be answering this question.

And what can we learn from each other? Vassilios Peristeras and Raul Mario Abril Jimenez of the ISA² programme of the European Commission, Jonn Dann from Luxembourg, Marc Kuster of the Publications Office of the EU, Patrocinio Nieto Moreno from Spain, Lutz Rabe from Germany, Tashiro Shuichi and Kenji Hiramato from Japan, and Declan Deasy former European Commission Director will present practices and inspiring views for developing and using data standards in their organisations.

In addition, speakers from the Member States, the European Commission, industry and academia will be discussing the practical applications of data standards in order to facilitate access to base registries and catalogues of services. Peter Burian of the ISA² programme of the European Commission and Ziggy Vanlishout of the Flemish Information Agency in Belgium will talk about the impact of data standards on the implementation of base registries. Miguel Alvarez of the ISA² programme of the European Commission and Giorgia Lodi from Italy will provide insights into how data standards can facilitate the implementation of catalogues of public services. Michalis Vafopoulos of Demokritos in Greece will present research insights into the modelling and linking of financial data. Finally, Daniele Rizzi of the European Commission, Simon Dukowski of Fraunhofer, Marco Pelegrino of Eurostat and Andrea Perego of the Joint Research Centre will discuss the use of data standards for implementing interoperable catalogues of datasets and open data portals.
