A new release of the Online Collection System (OCS) for the European Citizens’ Initiative is out! This version 3.0.0 includes major upgrades in terms of accessibility and maintainability of the application. The OCS is a reusable tool that permits the online collection of statements of support in a way that complies with the Regulation on the European Citizens' Initiative.
An accessibility assessment of the previous OCS version revealed a number of obstacles. To address them, the front end of the application, i.e. the part used by citizens and organisers of a European Citizens’ Initiative, has been completely revamped. This is another step in the constant effort to improve the OCS accessibility, which brought to the European Citizens’ Initiative project a diploma from the Spanish organisation ILUNION in 2018.
The second upgrade of the OCS was to improve the maintainability and the evolution of the application. The new version uses the reusable eUI front-end framework components provided by the European Commission’s DG DIGIT. The use of this building block ensures that the ‘look and feel’ complies with the Commission’s visual guidelines and the OCS front-end components will be maintained to the latest technology stack (this release uses eUI3 powered by Angular 5).
