Have your say: public consultation on designing an online platform for public access to European Commission documents

Access to EC documents

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on a new online platform for public access to Commission documents. The consultation is open from 29 June 2018 to 21 September 2018 to all citizens and entities with an interest in this field.

The project aims to design a new online platform for submitting and handling requests under Regulation 1049/2001 for public access to documents held by the Commission. In 2018, an action aimed at delivering a feasibility study for this project has become part of the ISA² Programme.

The general objective is to develop a more effective, user-friendly and electronic way to deal with requests for access to Commission documents, thereby bringing the Commission closer to citizens. The new online platform aims to facilitate electronic cross-border interactions with citizens, make it easier for them to track the documents they are interested in, and provide electronic access to the released documents.

Through the public consultation, the European Commission hopes to obtain input from citizens on how to design the platform to best meet citizens’ needs.
