The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is now connected to TESTA

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), the EU’s first supranational independent and decentralised prosecution office is now connected to TESTA.

EPPO has been created to strengthen the Union’s capacity to protect taxpayers’ money. TESTA will contribute to the mission of EPPO which is to conduct criminal investigations and prosecutions of fraud and crimes affecting the EU’s financial interests (so-called ‘PIF’ offences as defined in Directive (EU) 2017/1371).

The EPPO can also investigate and prosecute any other illegal activity that is ‘inextricably linked’ to an offence against the EU budget.

TESTA is the European backbone common communication infrastructure for data exchange between a wide variety of public administrations. It provides guaranteed performance and a high level of security and interoperability. The network is used by EU institutions and agencies, as well as EU countries and organizations acting on their behalf.

EPPO is expected to become operational in 2021. Further details on EPPO can be found here.
