EU Datathon 2020: Bringing innovative solutions with the help of open data from the European Union

The 4th edition of EU Datathon culminated on 15 October 2020 with the online finale, as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities.

Out of 121 proposals submitted for this year´s EU Datathon, the jury has preselected 12 ideas to compete in the finals during the European Week of Regions and Cities (October 2020). The candidates used open data made available by the EU Open Data Portal, the European Data Portal, the ESIF Data Portal, and by other EU institutions, agencies and international organisations.

In front of an audience of more than 300 open data specialists and enthusiasts, the twelve finalist teams demonstrated their ideas on how EU open data can help address priorities of the von der Leyen Commission:

Teams came up with diverse solutions to address waste management, deforestation, support SMEs in COVID-19 crisis and involve citizens in our democracy, among others. The competition was organised by the Publications Office of the EU in close collaboration with the European Commission´s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy. Winners were announced in each category and the public choice award. The complete results and the recording are available at the EU Datathon website.
