Sharing & Reuse Conference 2019

Nearly 150 participants attended the Sharing & Reuse Conference 2019 that took place on 11 June in Bucharest, Romania. An additional 300 people from all over the world followed the event via live stream. The presentations of all speakers and photos are now available.

The 2nd edition of the Sharing & Reuse Conference was organised by the ISA² Programme, under the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The event gathered open source experts, researchers and practitioners to participate in discussions about the use of open source in public administrations

“If public administrations open up, share what they have created and reuse already proven solutions, it will bring them lower costs, increased quality of service, more transparency which goes hand-in-hand with increased users’ trust, as well as improved interoperability,” said in the opening video message the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel.

Deputy Director-General of European Commission’s DG Informatics Mário Campolargo presented the new European Commission Digital Strategy that is user-centric and data-driven: “Think digital. Think open. Open source in public administration is one of the enablers for innovation, transparency and co-creation.”

Stela Mocan, Lead of Technology & Innovation Lab at the World Bank Group gave a keynote speech on the World Bank perspective on the topic. In her presentation, she covered organisation’s approach to open access, open data, open knowledge and open code.

Next sessions on Open Source Driving Modern and Transparent Government, Sharing & Reuse in Practice and Coding with Citizens presented practical examples and best practices in sharing and reusing software, data and IT services within public administrations.

“We need to ensure the EU earns the benefits of the digital transformation. And the best way to benefit from the digital change is to generate it,” concluded the day in his closing speech Romania's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Victor Micula.
