Assess semantic interoperability of your public service with SIMAPS

The European Commission launched a new self-assessment tool to assess semantic interoperability of any public service. The so-called SIMAPS (Semantic Interoperability Maturity Assessment for Public Services) is now available in its beta version. 

SIMAPS is the semantic specialisation of the IMAPS survey for the interoperability assessment of digital public services. Designed in line with the IMAPS structure and principles, SIMAPS aims at assessing and improving the semantic interoperability aspects of a digital public service. 

The SIMAPS survey consists of a set of questions to assess conformance with the European Interoperability Framework (EIF) and the European Interoperability Reference Architecture (EIRA). Useful insights, tailored recommendations and a list of best practices to improve the semantic interoperability maturity are reflected in the recommendations that accompany each question of the survey. 

Who are the target users?

• owners of digital public services; and
• those involved in their implementation such as enterprise architects and contractors. 

After completing the survey, users will receive:

• a personalised, confidential report with the semantic interoperability scores; and
• recommendations on how a service can be improved. 

You can complete the survey in approximately 30 minutes. 

SIMAPS is particularly connected with the IMAPS survey. If the IMAPS results recommend further investigation of the semantic aspects of a digital public service, the SIMAPS survey is triggered.

Although preliminary internal testing and refinements have been carried out, please take into account that the survey is still in its beta version and not considered official. Testing and consultation activities are in progress to help SIMAPS further evolve.

The European Commission is also considering investigating the feasibility of further specialisations of IMAPS, including L-IMAPS for legal interoperability, O-IMAPS for organisational interoperability and T-IMAPS for technical interoperability.
