The latest episode of the podcast is the second part of episode 17 on how to show data with maps.

In this episode, host Jonathan Elliot is joined by Joseph Davies, data visualisation specialist at Eurostat, Hannes Isaak Reuter, statistical officer at Eurostat, Riccardo Sgaramella, coordinator of the EU Annual Report on the State of Regions and Cities and policy officer at the European Committee of the Regions, and Konstantina Michalopoulou, statistical and communication officer at Eurostat.

The speakers discuss how maps can both illuminate and distort data visualisation, focusing on geographical information systems and the potential pitfalls in mapmaking. This episode also highlights how important it is to choose the correct map type to accurately represent data. It will also discuss how maps can become political statements due to border disputes and how Eurostat’s IMAGE tool can help users create well-presented data.
