Eurostat is pleased to announce our new thematic section on disability. This section gathers in the same place all data, methodology, publications and information on related statistical legislation regarding this theme.

Data available include disability prevalence, income and living conditions, social protection, access to the labour market, health and care services, and much more. It allows comparing the situation of persons with disabilities across EU countries and helps to assess whether they enjoy equal opportunities and full participation in all aspects of life.

In the course of 2024, Eurostat will continue to work on this section by releasing new data on life satisfaction, access to education and training and leisure and social participation.

It’s important to note that in 2021, the European Commission adopted the Strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities 2021-2030, aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities in the EU. Policy development in this area is crucial to help tackle various challenges concerning the social integration of persons with disabilities in all elements of life and having reliable data in relation to this group of persons is a key element to it.
