Candidate and potential candidate countries

Eurostat closely monitors the development of government finance and EDP statistics in countries that are candidate countries or potential candidates for EU Membership, in order to help them comply with the EU legislation (EU acquis).

To this end and to prepare them for EU membership, Eurostat has integrated theses countries into its government finance and EDP statistics working processes. Thereby they can advance in applying the concepts and methodology of ESA 2010 and the Manual of Government Deficit and Debt (MGDD).

The co-operation also includes technical visits to the countries and publication of GFS and EDP data, whenever their quality allows publication. The detail and quality of GFS and EDP data transmitted to Eurostat varies among the countries.

The Candidate Countries are: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, the Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Türkiye and Ukraine. Georgia and Kosovo* are Potential Candidates.
