Glossary:Wetland

Wetland is an area that falls between land and water that is wet for long enough periods that the plants and animals living in or near it are adapted to, and often dependent on, wet conditions for at least part of their life cycle. Wetland is defined as land that is:

  • inundated with water on a temporary or permanent basis;
  • inundated with water that is usually slow moving or stationary;
  • inundated with water that is shallow;
  • inundated with water that may be fresh, brackish or saline.
