Glossary:EU survey on the use of ICT in households and by individuals

The EU survey on the use of ICT in households and by individuals is an annual survey conducted since 2002, collecting data on the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in households and by individuals, e.g. the internet, e-commerce, e-government, privacy and protection of personal data, Internet of Things (IoT), Green ICT and digital skills.

Its main characteristics:

  • statistical unit: individuals, households;
  • reference period: first quarter of the reference year for most variables, 12 months prior to the survey for e-government, current situation for IoT;
  • recommended survey period: second quarter of the reference year;
  • scope/target population:
    • individuals: individuals aged 16 to 74 years;
    • households: households with at least one member in the age group 16 to 74 years old;
