This need for research has been identified in FG 42 on “Sustainable beef production systems”. If you want to know more about it, check the final report of the Focus Group.

Some breeds/animals may have a naturally lower carbon footprint (produce less methane) than others or be better at conservation grazing whilst not having an adverse effect on GHG production.
