SoilCare workshop on sustainable and profitable agriculture in Europe

The SoilCare Project is organising an online workshop on sustainable and profitable agriculture in Europe. This workshop concludes a series of activities which included a workshop organised in Brussels in June 2019 and webinar held in April 2020.

Done so far

In June 2019, with the contributions of the workshop, the factors that would potentially influence the adoption of sustainable farming practices were identified. Drivers that would challenge or enable voluntary and mandatory instruments were discussed. Building on those, four scenarios were created which explore different future pathways for sustainable agriculture in Europe. These scenarios were presented at the webinar in April 2020 (a recording of the webinar “Future Scenarios for Sustainable Agriculture in the EU” is available at https://vimeo.com/418007956). The research team used the feedback collected at the webinar to refine the scenarios, which then formed the backdrop for quantifying the impacts of different farming practices on sustainability and profitability.

 The aim of the final workshop

• Present and discuss the modelled impacts of the scenarios on sustainability and profitability with the participants.
• Explore policy actions that could promote the uptake of farming practices beneficial to soil health.
