Trade deal with Ecuador to secure jobs in Europe’s fish processing industry

In July this year, the EU and Ecuador concluded negotiations for a trade and development agreement, which was also discussed at today’s meeting of the College of Commissioners.

The deal will allow Ecuador to benefit from continued access to the EU for its main exports, particularly fish products which will enjoy duty-free and quota-free access to the EU market. This agreement will help us to secure jobs in Europe’s fish processing industry and will also benefit European consumers.

In 2013, Ecuador exported fisheries and aquaculture products to the EU worth more than 1 billion euros.
