Commissioner Damanaki meets European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek
31/08/2011
With the extended powers provided by the Lisbon Treaty to the European Parliament in the field of fisheries policy, its support will be crucial for the proposals for a reformed Common Fisheries Policy to become law.
After having presented the proposals to the European Parliament Committee on Fisheries [4 MB] on 13 July and having provided further clarifications on a number of issues , on Wednesday 31 August, Commissioner Damanaki met European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, in Brussels.
The discussion focussed on central elements of the Commission's proposals for the reform: the establishment of clear and defined targets for reaching maximum sustainable yield, the elimination of discards and the regionalization of decisions, to move away from centralized micromanagement.
