DS regions > Information on data EN REVAMP

The EU members are often compared with each other. In reality, it can be difficult to compare small countries, such as Malta or Luxembourg, with larger ones, such as Germany or France.

Comparing regional data is often more informative compared with country data: it may reveal the disparities or similarities between EU members or even within EU countries themselves.

Regional statistical information is important for understanding and quantifying the impact of political decisions in a specific territory or region.

Available topics

Eurostat’s regional statistics provide a detailed picture on the following topics across the regions of the EU countries, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and enlargement countries:

  • agriculture
  • business
  • crime
  • demography
  • digital economy and society
  • economy
  • education

Data collection and release

Regional data is collected together with the country level data in the context of the respective data collection of each statistical domain or topic. It usually covers a subset of the variables collected at the country level.

Regional data are released by Eurostat later than the national level data.
