Eurostat has released the 2024 interactive publication on demography, where you can find interesting insights about how the population is developing, ageing and much more. 

Did you know that the share of persons aged 65 and over increased from 16.2% in the beginning of 2003 to 21.3% in the beginning of 2023? Did you know that while the EU population on 1st January decreased in 2021 and 2022, it increased to a high of 448.8 million people in 2023? 

Furthermore, in 2023, life expectancy at birth was estimated to stand at 81.5 years, up from 77.7 years in 2003, and 80.6 in 2022.
