Albumin is a general term for a water soluble protein. It most often refers to serum albumin, a protein which passes from the liver into the bloodstream. It is the main protein component of the plasma, the portion of blood left after blood cells have been removed. It is also found in other body fluids. Bovine serum albumin is used in many laboratory tissue cultures and growth media.
