Interparliamentary Committee discuss the European Child Guarantee

Representatives of the national parliaments discussed the state of play of the European Child Guarantee and best practices related to it. They met on 28 June 2023, during an Interparliamentary meeting at the European Parliament to commemorate the two-year milestone of the European Child Guarantee.

The meeting was attended by several national Child Guarantee Coordinators and saw high level interventions.

The Swedish Minister for Social Services Camilla Waltersson Grönvall and the Belgian Minister of Pensions and Social integration, Karine Lalieux, both stressing the need to step up the fight against child poverty and maintaining it high on the political agenda.

Commission Vice-President, Dubravka Šuica mentioned that investing in children was key to ensure the stability of our societies, and a key to respect children’s rights to access high quality healthcare, and education, whatever their background.

DG EMPL Director General Joost Korte provided an update from the Commission on the implementation of the Guarantee.

Other topics discussed included:

  • call for submission of outstanding action plans
  • need for swift implementation of measures on the ground
  • EU funding available to support the Child Guarantee implementation.
