To mark the second anniversary of adoption of the European Child Guarantee recommendation, a meeting was held in Brussels on 20 June 2023. The meeting aimed at discussing the implementation in Member States of the different actions of the Child Guarantee.

The opening lecture on the future of social protection and of the welfare state in the EU was delivered by Professor Anton Hemerijck.

Participants exchanged on on-going good practices, which included:

• creating of a cash benefit complementing the family allowance for children in extreme poverty in Portugal;
• setting up of multifunctional "Adolescent Hubs" with a strong educational dimension to foster social inclusion and fight school drop-out in Italy;
• a series of seminars for the regional authorities, each focusing on one of the main services in Belgium.

EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit and Karine Lalieux, Belgian Minister of Pensions and Social Integration, took part in the meeting.
