To finish off the year with points to ponder, European social partners discussed how to modernise the organisation of the EU sectoral social dialogue at the Commission’s third technical seminar.

Social partners explored how to potentially restructure existing committees and improve the relevance of the EU sectoral social dialogue in the midst of various challenges, such as dynamic economic trends, the twin transitions and new forms of work.

This consultation also allowed social partners to consider ways to enhance cooperation across sectors. Furthermore, they discussed strategies to best target and use the resources devoted to social dialogue, for instance using the funding available under the call for proposals on social dialogue.

The seminars are part of the consultation process that the Commission organises in the framework of the review of EU sectoral social dialogue, as part of the social dialogue initiative.

As stated in the European Social Pillar Action Plan and confirmed in the Commission’s Work Programme 2022, the social dialogue initiative will be presented in 2022. It will consist of a Communication and a proposal for a Council Recommendation. This will be preceded by an extensive social partner consultation.
