With the European Year of Youth 2022 in full swing, the latest episode of the Euronews Real Economy magazine focuses on what the European Union does to help young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds but also young refugees from Ukraine, to find jobs and training.

In this episode, Real Economy sheds light on the achievements of the European Youth Guarantee which has so far helped more than 36 million people. It also introduces the new ALMA initiative, which stands for Aim, Learn, Master, Achieve and will officially be launched later in the year.

It will help roll out the EU’s Youth Guarantee by offering young people from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to gain new skills and confidence by working abroad before returning to their home country.

Real Economy went to meet young people in the Czech Republic who talk about the work experience, motivation and self-esteem they gained when spending time working in Dublin. They could do so thanks to the 'Expedition Ireland' project which is part of TLN Mobility Network having inspired ALMA.

As Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, puts it in his interview with Euronews: 'This gives one thing which these young people need absolutely: it is confidence in themselves'. He also explains the benefits of ALMA and how the new CARE initiative (Cohesion Action for Refugees in Europe) help young refugees from Ukraine to access education and the labour market.
