The second PES Network Working Group (WG) meeting on PES Digitalisation discussed Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Analytics (AA) and utilising those efficiently and safely to benefit PES users.

Meeting participants heard a presentation from the Netherlands’ Scientific Council for Government Policy on what AI is and its potential benefits and threats to society, concluding that its use requires awareness and involvement of all societal actors. Additionally, the Luxembourgish and Flemish (Belgium) PES presented their practical experiences of using AI and Advanced Analytics (AA) for matching and determining competences.

AI is an area of great interest to PES as it has the potential to transform PES into genuine data-driven organisations. A 2022 PES Network survey revealed that 73% of European PES are already working on AI-related aspects.

Keen on learning from their peers, participating PES concluded that they should take incremental steps when designing and implementing AI solutions.

The meeting brought together representatives of 17 PES, the European Commission and a thematic expert. The third and final WG meeting will take place in Amsterdam on 9 February 2023.
