Glossary:Population connected to urban wastewater treatment
The population connected to urban wastewater treatment relates to the proportion of citizens connected to any kind of sewage treatment carried out in municipal treatment plants by public authorities or private enterprises on behalf of local authorities.
At the plants, urban wastewater normally undergoes a biological treatment with a secondary settlement or other process. This results in a biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal of at least 70 %, and a chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal of at least 75 %.
