Eurostat regional yearbook 2019, draft timetable
| I. Preparatory phase

Kick-off meeting with the Coordination group for the Regional yearbook.

| 11 January 2019

Deadline for Eurostat units responsible for each chapter to provide ideas on content to be included in the next edition of the publication (e-mail with questions).

| 14-25 February
|
Consultation with participating units to collect feedback on the draft version of the detailed chapter plan.
|
| 1 March
|
Finalised detailed chapter plan will be distributed to the participating units.
|
| II. Drafting and review phase
|
| 18 March
|
Data extractions based on the detailed chapter plans. Informa will extract data for preparing the maps, tables and figures.
|
| 12 April
|
Delivery of Excel files by Informa for maps to be made by the GISCO team. Participating units will be contacted in case there are data issues.
|
| 24 May
|
Delivery of Word files with the text for the publication by Informa to Unit E4. Completion of a draft set of maps by the GISCO team.
|
| 27 May-7 June
|
Consultation with participating units on the text, tables, figures and maps + chapter separator photos.

| III. Completion phase
|
| 17-21 June
|
Informa to load finalised versions of text, tables, figures and maps in DRAFT mode in Statistics Explained.

| 24-28 June
|
Consultation with participating units to approve articles in Statistics Explained.
|
| 24 June-5 July
|
Informa will make the layout and provide Eurostat with a draft version in PDF format.
|
| 12 July
|
Unit E4 will provide Eurostat’s comments on the first PDF version to Informa.

| July - August
|
Informa will provide Eurostat with final PDF files. Publication is sent to printing. Planning of promotional activities.

| IV. Publication release and associated activities

Rules and principles for the publication process
- NUTS version: please note that all of the work for the 2019 edition of the Eurostat regional yearbook should be based on NUTS 2016.
- Data extractions: there is an extraction date set for 18 March 2019. There will not be any opportunity during the production phase to make multiple extractions of the same data. Later revisions/updates of data can not be integrated into the publication, the only exception is corrections of obvious mistakes.
- Colour schemes for the maps: the relevant Eurostat publication theme colours will be applied to each map as defined in the latest version of the Eurostat graphical style guide. This will make it easier to reuse the same map in other publications.
- Consultation phase with Eurostat units: draft chapters will be distributed to Eurostat units (by Åsa Önnerfors) by 27 May for comments within two weeks – as such the deadline for comments will be no later than 7 June 2019. If the person responsible for providing comments will not be available during this planned two-week period, Åsa Önnerfors in Unit E4 should be contacted in advance so that a replacement may be agreed.
- Finalisation in Statistics Explained: once comments have been integrated the chapters will be processed and appear as draft articles on Statistics Explained. The contact persons in the units will be asked to SIGHT the articles (no changes foreseen concerning the content of each chapter, only the formatting on Statistics Explained — this will also be checked and validated by the regional unit and the dissemination unit); all articles (chapters) of the publication should be available online within Statistics Explained by 24 June 2019 (and will subsequently be used as the basis for laying out the paper edition of the publication).
