Overview

Cyprus exceeded its national target on tertiary educational attainment by 11.1 percentage points in 2018. In the same year, the country had also surpassed its target on early leavers from education and training by 2.2 percentage points. In 2017, Cyprus was one of three Member State to have met its target on R&D expenditure. Despite improvements in primary energy consumption since 2008, the country was still 0.3 Mtoe away from its goal in 2017. By 2017, Cyprus had reduced the distance to its renewable energy goal to 3.1 percentage points. In 2017, the country was still some distance from its Europe 2020 commitment on ESD GHG emissions. Although Cyprus’s employment rate has been growing since 2013, in 2018 it was still 1.1 percentage points below its 75 % national target. Moreover, the country would need to lift 61 000 more people out of the risk of poverty or social exclusion to meet its 2020 commitment.
