Quarterly Report on the Euro Area. July 2007

The second issue in 2007 assesses recent economic developments and short-term prospects in the euro area, looking in particular at the effect of the euro appreciation on domestic prices and the trade performance. The report also presents an analysis of the links between fiscal policy and inflation as well as a mid-term review of fiscal policy in the euro area. The focus section discusses the importance of financial integration for a smooth functioning of the euro area.
The Quarterly Report on the Euro Area is written by staff of the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). It is intended to contribute to a better understanding of economic developments in the euro area and to improve the quality of the public debate surrounding the area's economic policy.
