Quarterly Report on the Euro Area. December 2006(885 kB)
The fourth issue in 2006 assesses recent economic developments and short-term prospects in the euro area, looking in particular into the possible effects of a US slowdown on the euro-area economy. It also presents estimates of the non-accelerating wage rate of unemployment (NAWRU). A first focus section analyses the causes and policy implications of widening current account differences within the euro area. A second focus section looks at the long-term sustainability of public finances in the euro area.
The Quarterly Report on the Euro Area is written by staff of the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). It is intended to contribute to a better understanding of economic developments in the euro area and to improve the quality of the public debate surrounding the area's economic policy.
